From Peaks to Plains
For a long time, Chinese wine meant one thing to most people: a novelty, or a curiosity at best. That's changing and changing fast.
A new generation of Chinese winemakers is doing something genuinely interesting. They're farming their own land, thinking independently, and making wines that taste like somewhere specific. Not like a textbook interpretation of Bordeaux. Not like a wine designed for competition scores. From the dizzying altitudes of Yunnan, or the Helan Mountain foothills in early autumn, to the alluvial plains of Hebei where the Great Wall of China runs through the vines.
We started working with Chinese wine because we encountered producers who reminded us of the growers we love in France and Spain. People rooted in a place, making small quantities with real conviction. The scale is different. The grapes are sometimes unfamiliar. But the intent is the same.
