Pom N Roll 2020

Pom N Roll is Château Gombaude-Guillot’s rule-breaking, dress-code-optional Pomerol — made from a small parcel of 80-year-old Malbec vines blended with old-vine Merlot and a touch of Cabernet Franc from this storied right-bank estate. Where the Grand Vin sees barrel ageing, Pom N Roll is raised almost entirely in amphorae and sealed stainless-steel vats, preserving every bit of primary fruit and that signature natural freshness Gombaude-Guillot has championed since converting to organics in the 1990s. The 2020 is plush and deeply coloured, with concentrated black fruit, plum, a whisper of mocha, and velvety tannins that sit like soft flannel rather than a stiff suit. Unfiltered, unfined, and made with barely any sulphur, it is Bordeaux as a pleasure — immediate, generous, and open to all.
