Mercurey Clos l’Évêque Blanc 2020
Clos l’Évêque is one of Mercurey’s 32 premier cru vineyards, a site David Lefort acquired in 2010 and has farmed organically ever since. The white version is an unusual expression for this predominantly red appellation — Chardonnay grown on deep Jurassic clay-limestone soils that lend the wine both weight and a striking mineral precision. The 2020 shows everything great Côte Chalonnaise white can offer: a rich, textured palate underpinned by a lively acidity, notes of ripe orchard fruit and hazelnut, and a long, saline finish. Vinified with native yeasts, unfined and unfiltered, it is a serious wine from a rising address in Burgundy — and an excellent match for fish with cream sauces, white meats, or aged cheeses.
A rare premier cru white from one of Burgundy’s most compelling organic estates.
