Mercurey Clos l’Évêque Blanc 2020

Clos l'Évêque is one of Mercurey's better-known climats, and this is David Lefort's white from it. He came to the Côte Chalonnaise in 2010 after studying medicine and philosophy in Paris, took on two hectares of Mercurey premier cru that same year, and learned the job in the rows. Biodynamics underpin the farming. In the cellar the grapes ferment on their own yeasts and the wine goes into bottle unfined and unfiltered, with a share of new oak in the raising. It carries more stuffing than the appellation usually gets credit for: orchard fruit, hazelnut, and a chalky mineral finish that runs long.
