Medo Syrah 2021
Medo Syrah comes from Luwa Village, perched at an extraordinary 2,560 metres above sea level on the eastern edge of the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau. This is one of the highest-altitude Syrah vineyards in the world, shaped by a climate as demanding as it is expressive.
Shangri-La’s growing season is defined by intense sunlight, thin dry air, and dramatic day and night temperature swings. Summers remain cool even at peak heat, while nights drop sharply, allowing grapes to ripen slowly and evenly. This long, extended season preserves natural acidity while building aromatic depth and structure, producing wines of clarity rather than heaviness.
Luwa Village is regarded as one of the most pioneering communities in the region. Among the first to plant wine grapes, the first to experiment with Syrah, and even to graft Syrah onto Cabernet Sauvignon rootstocks. The wine is named “Medo, 梅朵”, meaning “little flower” in Tibetan, after a respected village elder who led the planting of the first vines seventeen years ago. The name is a tribute to the people who opened this land to viticulture.
In the glass, Medo Syrah is precise and lifted, showing dark berries, wild herbs, black pepper and a cool alpine freshness. Tannins are firm yet fine, acidity vibrant with a long and mineral finish. This is Syrah shaped not by warmth and power but by altitude and patience.
This is a full bodied natural red wine.
