FARMentation® is a Yunnan-based rural fermentation project founded by Yuchen, a Chinese winemaker trained across major wine regions in Europe and South America. With a doctoral background in winemaking, Yuchen combines technical precision with a deep commitment to agriculture, rural culture, and low-intervention practices.
After completing his studies in Germany, Yuchen returned to Yunnan and began working in the Shangri-La region, where high-altitude vineyards and mountain villages became the foundation of his winemaking journey. FARMentation® represents a return home and a long-term exploration of terroir through fermentation.
The project is guided by a collective philosophy of “growing in freedom, fermenting good stuff,” focusing on natural fermentations carried out at origin. FARMentation® works with local fruit, historic vineyards, and traditional grape varieties, aiming to revitalise rural landscapes while expressing the clarity, freshness, and tension shaped by Yunnan’s altitude and light.
