Macvin du Jura 2018
Macvin du Jura is the region's old trick. Grape must is stopped in its tracks with marc, the spirit distilled from pressed skins, so the wine never ferments dry and keeps its sugar intact. Jean-Michel and Laurence Petit make theirs at Domaine de la Renardière in Pupillin, where they have farmed organically since 2010 across seven and a half hectares. It is sweet and warming, with dried apricot, honey and a nutty edge that comes from the spirit, and the marc leaves a faint grip that stops the sugar from settling. A small glass goes a long way.
