Indigènes is Maï Lam's wine for Blacé, in southern Beaujolais, and what separates it from her Canaille is time: a month on skins rather than a fortnight. That buys depth, and a structure that suggests it will keep for a while yet. Gamay again, no sulphur added, pressed slowly in the way she and Sébastien Morin both favour. Darker fruited than the Canaille and more serious with it, with firmer tannin and a savoury length. Lam is French-Vietnamese and spent years in Singapore before Beaujolais, which is worth knowing when you notice how easily these wines sit with the food here.

About La Mai Wines

Mai Lam, a French-Vietnamese winemaker, spent her early adult years working in Singapore. She found solace in the city’s dynamic food and wine scene, where late-night conversations over natural wines sparked a curiosity that slowly grew into obsession. She packed her bags, traded in the skyscrapers for scenic vineyards, moving to Beaujolais - a place she had long admired for its raw, coarse energy. In Beaujolais, Mai met Sébastien Morin and the two instantly clicked. Sébastien became both her mentor and partner, and together they began crafting wines that championed low intervention, long macerations, and slow presses. Mai’s fierce determination and sharp intuition brought her to her first bottling in 2024, an unapologetic reflection of her character: bold, complex, and deeply kind-hearted.
