Renaissance Project 2021

Sale price$68.00

This wine marks the inaugural release of FARMentation’s Renaissance Project, dedicated to reviving China’s heritage grape varieties. At its centre is Black Muscat or 玫瑰香, one of the earliest wine grapes introduced to China and a variety with deep historical significance, now rarely bottled on its own.

Early-harvested Muscat Hambourg undergoes extended skin contact, with 30 days of low-temperature maceration in stainless steel before gentle pressing. Fermentation proceeds naturally, followed by 18 months of ageing in neutral oak barrels. The wine is bottled unfiltered, preserving texture and aromatic depth.

In the glass, the wine shows a deep amber hue with an expressive yet balanced profile. Oriental aromas of lychee, ginger flower, citrus peel, ripe apple, and subtle saline notes lead into a juicy, textured palate. Despite its aromatic intensity, the wine remains dry, structured, and highly drinkable.

This is not nostalgia for nostalgia’s sake, but a deliberate act of reinterpretation by giving new voice to a grape that has long shaped China’s viticultural identity.
