Radicalement Rouge 2023

Radicalement is the straightforward end of what Marc Houtin and Alexandre Forge make at Les Vignes du Fresche, and there is nothing at all wrong with straightforward. They took the estate on in 2022: twenty-four hectares in one unbroken piece on a schist plateau above the Loire at La Pommeraye, farmed organically for over twenty years. Everything is picked by hand, fermented on its own yeasts and raised in large vessels, with sulphur used only where a wine asks for it. This is bright and juicy, crunchy red fruit with a peppery edge, the tannins soft and the schist showing up as a mineral snap right at the end. Serve it cool.
