The name started as a practical joke about Daisy and Antoine being a British-French couple making German wine and it has stayed because the wine keeps earning it.

Still Crossing Borders is Pinot Gris from a 20-year-old organic vineyard in Wendelsheim on red sandstone, hand-harvested in September 2023. Eight days on the skins, whole bunch, semi-carbonic maceration, then ten months in old oak. It comes out the other side as something genuinely unusual for Germany: a skin-contact wine that tastes of red fruits notably raspberry, a hint of pomegranate but with the freshness and low alcohol of a cool-climate northern harvest.

Soft tannins, clean, with a slight carbonic lift that keeps everything animated. Serve it chilled; it behaves more like a very good light red than anything else.

About Soma Vines

The SOMA VINES winemaking project was started by Antoine Lucchesi and Daisy Merrick.

Antoine is originally from Marseille. He studied oenology at the winemaking school in Alsace, France. After some years working for different wineries in Germany such as Sekthaus Griesel and Domaine Brand in France, he joined forces with SOMA to begin making his own range of low intervention wines.

Daisy is originally from Norwich, UK. After years of working in the hospitality industry, she went on to study the WSET Advanced, which led her to London and New York working for well known companies such as Majestic Wine and Chambers Street Wines. SOMA VINES was founded in Berlin in 2018 as an importing and distributing company. Eventually, the company further developed into a winemaking project with Antoine, and their first vintage was in 2020.

Since 2023, Antoine and Daisy have been picking grapes from their rented 4 hectares of vines located in and around Eckelsheim. In the cellar they work low intervention. Spontaneous fermentation, no fining, no filtration and no added sulfites.
