A Picture Painted by a Boy on Thursday Afternoon 2022
Hebei, China · Red Wine · Medium Bodied
The name is as unhurried as the wine. This is Chengzi's Bordeaux-shaped blend from the Great Wall foothills of Huailai, Hebei, Cabernet Sauvignon leading with Merlot and a lift of Marselan, aged sixteen months in stainless steel to keep the fruit bright. He farms biodynamically and works with as light a hand as he can: organic grapes, wild-yeast fermentation, no fining, no filtering, no added sulphur. Dark berry and cassis, a savoury, herbal thread and smooth, well-judged tannins, a red that is serious without being heavy. A wine for a long, slow afternoon, painted or otherwise.
